Suicide & Ligature

Course Description

This course provides participants with the skills to identify and respond to self-harm, suicidal intent, and ligature risks. Participants will learn to recognise early warning signs, communicate effectively, and take appropriate action in high-risk situations. This course also covers the identification of ligatures and anchor points, use and storage of ligature cutters, and correct reporting and post-incident procedures.

Course Outline

  • Differentiate between self-harm and suicidal intent

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills
  • Describe the appropriate steps to take!
  • Recognise what a ligature and a ligature anchor point is
  • Understand the signs and symptoms of ligature injuries
  • Describe correct use and storage of ligature cutters
  • Follow reporting, recording, and post-incident procedures!

Course Duration

3 hours / 6 hours (learning outcomes covered in more detail, as well as a practical element of using the ligature cutter to cut a ligature from the neck of a manikin)

Certification

All delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.

The course can be delivered at locations to suit the client or at one of our training venues.
