Course Description

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to Autism and Neurodiversity, exploring the diverse ways individuals experience and express neurodivergence.
Through guided reflection, you will examine your own values and beliefs while developing a deeper understanding of the differences, strengths, and challenges that Autistic people may encounter.

The course also covers key factors such as anxiety triggers, sensory processing, and the impact of environments on wellbeing, equipping you to identify reasonable adjustments and adapt your practice to be more inclusive.

By the end, you will be familiar with relevant legislation and resources that support enabling, accessible, and person‑centred services.

Course Outline

  • Understand what Autism and Neurodiversity / Neurodivergence is, and how people experience it in different ways
  • Reflect on your own values and beliefs
  • Recognise potential differences, strengths and challenges for Autistic people
  • Identify potential triggers for anxiety & behaviours
  • Understand sensory processing and how the environment can impact Autistic people
  • Identify reasonable adjustments & ways to adapt your practice
  • Be familiar with legislation and resources for inclusive enabling services
